Sample Letter--January 2007

Dear family and friends,
Sorry for the long pause in writing! With all the holiday activities, the letter got pushed to the background! Rather than attempt to give a long accounting of all kinds of events that are long past, I will just present a scattering of recent happenings so you know that we haven’t forgotten you all!

Exhibit A—attached photo—documentation of what happens when a water loving 18 month old is left alone with a running faucet for a few minutes. After laughing and taking some photos, I had to revert to mom mode and teach Nathan the hard lesson that bears who aren’t supposed to go into the water must be quarantined in the dryer for several hours before they can be played with again. He was grateful to be reunited with his precious Buddy Bear and hasn’t tried to stick him in the sink again, although he still takes great delight in playing in the water and would do it for an hour if you’d let him.

Exhibit B—absence of letter this month—aside from my holiday excuse, I also was kept from writing by a 5 day trip to visit my sister in Seattle. My mom flew out as well, and Than’s mom flew here to Denver to help him take care of Nathan. It was great to have a break in routine, and even better to spend some time with mom and Kaye. It was good to catch up with each other, work on wedding plans, and just enjoy girly time. I miss them and was glad for the chance to have some time together. I was also grateful to leave Nathan in such good hands, allowing me to truly enjoy the trip. Aside from a one hour bus ride that ended up taking 4 and ½ hours, traveling was great and I was glad both to leave and then come home.

Exhibit C—Denver on the nightly news—you may have thought of us sometime in the past month when we popped up on your 10:00 news with all of this snow. After 5 weekends in a row with snowfall, we are looking forward to a break this weekend. The sun is out today and attempting to work its magic, but there is an awful lot of accumulation to be melted! Than has shoveled and shoveled and shoveled some more, and Nathan has finally learned to tolerate snow boots and mittens so he can get outside a little, although I can’t turn my head or he’ll disappear in a drift and never be heard from again!

Exhibit D—Miscellaneous sentences that have nothing to do with each other—Our friends the Eckdahls left the US early in January to begin language school in France before traveling as missionaries to Senegal. We enjoyed spending Christmas with Than’s Klish grandparents in the morning, as they spent the night since they couldn’t get out of town due to the snow. We also enjoyed seeing Than’s Baylor family on Christmas with a party at Aunt Ann’s house. Visits from each set of grandparents to our house over the holidays were a fun way to spread out the joy of the season. Nathan was a capable little helper in delivering goody plates to neighbors, and helping himself if he got the chance at home. The kitchen has been fairly quiet of late, resting I suppose in preparation for the next staff lunch or dinner party or whatever else comes our way. If you have stuck with me this long, I am so amazed. Apparently taking a break from letter writing has caused a decline in my ability to construct a logical paragraph, but at least you know I’m still here.

Well, that’s all for now.
Michelle (for Than and Nathan too)
