Goal Update

Goal #5--OK, I'm going to have to modify this one because it is a little tricky to keep track of which goals need a post just once, which ones get more than one post, etc. I'll just count how many blog entries have "goal" as a subject. Including this one, I'm up to 18!
Goal # 9--Up to 9 out of 30 books from my over 200 volume reading idea list! The most interesting one recently was The Gifts of the Jews by Thomas Cahill. In it, Cahill (not a particularly orthodox believer, but a thoughtful scholar just the same) looks at the early history of the Jews (mostly Abraham, Moses, and David's time) and identifies some interesting contributions that continue to affect the world we live in.
Goal #10--Up to 58 Newberry winners, the most recently memorable being Call it Courage by Armstrong Sperry which will make an exciting read aloud for Nathan in a few years.
Goal #14--21 Oscar Best Pictures so far. American in Paris is low on plot but suprisingly high on famous music. The Grand Hotel was interesting in an artistic and sort of rambling, depressing way. A new favorite is You Can't Take it With You, a fun but thought provoking story of a crazy family's ties to each other.
Goal #26--See Kimi's post here about our visit to their house! We've met my goal, but certainly look forward to many more fun days together before "time is up" on this project.
Goal #29--Continuing to enjoy time with grandparents, most recently with the Topping set here for dinner last night. Nathan had fun playing cars with Grandpa Train!
Goal #81--Up to 41 Caldecott winners. Nathan really liked the African folk tale A Story, A Story, maybe because it had lots of fun sounding words in it!
Goal #82--Up to Psalm 38. Nathan likes to ask for me to read a Psalm before bed now, and he always wants to know "what was that story about" when I finish. He suprised me by actually remembering some of what I had said the other day!
Goal #83--OK, so I don't know exactly how many letters Nathan can identify and I certainly didn't teach them to him on purpose but between alphabet books, his letters on the floor in the basement, and his alphabet train he is very into letters at the moment! He can identify tons of them and likes to find his favorites in books, on cereal boxes, and on road signs. He also likes to ask "What number (letter) that starts with?" for all sorts of random words.
Goal #89--1000 things is more than I thought! It is a good exercise to reflect on all there is to be grateful for, though.

Well, that's the bulk of my progress so far. We shall see how life with a new baby interrupts the to-do list even more!!
