Quote 46

"Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get." --Charles Kettering

Having just finished "The Geography of Bliss," a book about happiness around the world, it was interesting to see how that author also found this quote to be true as he travelled around the world to the happiest (and unhappiest) locations on the globe. Happiness has much more to do with the internals than the externals, and what makes one person happy may not make another happy at all! Having experienced some definite unhappiness in the last few days (Than down hard with strep throat, Nathan testing the limits with some huge tantrums, random frustrations around the house, feeling heavy and hard-to-move with a soon-to-be-born baby) I am more grateful that usual for the happiness of late as well (re-discovering a favorite Rich Mullins song, time to play by myself on the piano, getting our taxes filed, puttering in our nursery, enjoying my baby shower). On a spiritual perspective, while God does not promise us happiness, it is definitely true that we experience greater joy and contentment when our will is in line with His will for us. God's plans for me will come to fruition, so if my plans match his I will get what I want and want what I get! The tricky part is believing that His plans for me are better than my plans for myself. Have to think about that!
