Potty Training Update
WARNING: More potty information contained in this post. Skip it if you don't care, or would rather not know!!
One week into the potty training adventure, I am sane enough to reflect somewhat philosophically, so I guess that is a good sign. If I had written this post on Wednesday, it would have looked more like "AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!" so I guess we're making progress.
CONS--on our 3rd pair of underwear for today
--Mommy has to remind Nathan every 30 minutes or so, and then every 10 minutes until something good happens (or we have an accident)
--it has proven possible remind Nathan to go potty, have an accident 5 minutes later, and have another one 10 minutes after we get the first one cleaned up
--keeping 6 pairs of underwear clean and dry has involved countless loads of laundry and resulted in 3 pairs being dyed pink when washed with a messy rug
--there are things that go in underwear that are much worse than potty
PROS--we have been successful 5 times today
--Nathan can do the whole process by himself (as long as you don't worry too much about the underwear actually laying flat against his skin. It covers what it needs to cover and doesn't fall off, so that counts for me!)
--Nathan volunteered to go potty early on today and was right about it, even though it meant coming in from outside to do the deed
--chocolate chips work better than train cars for rewards, and are much cheaper too!
--nobody has screamed in frustration at anybody else today (contrary to Wednesday)
--I still love my son, and he still loves me
--there is hope for the future!
We'll stick with it, at least until next Thursday--2 week mark. I'll let you know how it goes, unless you cheerily volunteer the information that your sweet darling was trained in one day with no trouble at all, in which case I might never speak to you again!!
Hi Michelle! I found your blog through the IFHS reunion page. I'm really enjoying reading it, especially since I see so much of my own life in it. I've been halfheartedly working on potty training Alex for months now. He knows what to do, remembers when to go, tells me if he has to go, but flat out doesn't want to. He'd rather walk around in wet pants. One of these days, I'm sure he'll come around.
