Quote

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." --Benjamin Franklin

This was one of the quotes of the day on my google homepage, and it made me wonder about how it relates to airport security checks, among other things. I am reading a biography of John Adams and wondering about the values of freedom, patriotism, and committment to a cause even when it is difficult. I think my own life is much too soft in many of those areas. I wonder if this quote has any spiritual bearing, or just political?
