Up a Tree

Adventures today! As we were eating lunch outside on the patio, we heard a sad mewing sound. Thinking there was a lost kitten somewhere, I wandered through the garden to investigate. I finally located the source of the noise--a little grey and white cat stuck up in our neighbor's tree. Figuring she would get down on her own, we went on with our day. By 6:00, however, she was still up there, crying sadly anytime we walked outside. The squirrel who lives in the tree was also chattering angrily. After calling the neighbor twice and getting no response, Kaye and I finally decided we had to perform the rescue ourselves (Than was at work). We loaded all 3 kids and the ladder into the van and headed around the block. Letting ourselves in through the gate, we hauled kids and ladder into the backyard. Armed with leather gloves and a piece of lunchmeat, I climbed the ladder to the very top while Kaye held it steady. The kitty was happy to see someone, enjoyed being petted, and finally let me drag it out of the tree safely to the ground. We packed up kids and ladder and were on our way. Nathan was very curious about the whole adventure, so we'll see what version he tells Daddy tomorrow. (By the way, the photo here is NOT mine, nor is it of the cat or the tree involved.
