Katya is Growing!

News flash, I know, but Katya is now 10 months old. That first birthday milestone is racing here with alarming speed. A few updates...
Crawling!! She has finally progressed from "dragging" to crawling and seems very happy about her increased mobility.
Discovering!! Along with movement comes exploration. After many weeks of a crabby, hard to entertain baby, Than and I are welcoming this new adventurous creature who explores all by herself, enjoying "talking" to stuffed animals, tipping over any bin or basket that has things in it, cleaning out the Tupperware cupboard, and investigating whatever her brother has going.
Sleeping!! It may not seem like much of an accomplishment to some, but for us it is huge to finally have Katya sleeping through until 5:15 or even 6:15 a.m. After a sleepy feeding, she'll go back to sleep until 8 a.m. or even a little later. She usually does 2 naps a day, one longer and one shorter, but her schedule is certainly not a very firm thing!! (Admittedly a source of some frustration to this clock-driven mother, but I'm learning slowly to relax a bit.)
Eating!! Some days, not interested in much table food at all. Other days, gobbling down all sorts of things. She prefers large pieces to small bits, food from my plate to food from her tray (even if it is the same food!) and fruit to most other things. The other day she somehow managed to eat over 1/2 of a slice of pizza without us even cutting it up for her. She also loves bananas, yogurt, oatmeal, goldfish crackers, blueberries, and carrots (depending on the day)
Talking!! OK, no real words yet, but lots of dadada, mamama, nananana, tatata and bababa. We've been trying to teach her a little sign language and she seems to know "all done" and maybe "more". She can also do the traditional baby favorites "bye-bye" and raised arms for "So big!!) Of course, we still have plenty of frustrated screaming when things don't go right, a cherished object it taken away, or some offense is suffered but those tantrums are (maybe) decreasing just a bit.

Over Christmas we set up the photo studio and Than captured some great shots for her 9 month portraits. Here are my favorites:

I love the crooked smile and the "Who me?" picture. She is really cute, and Than is a great photographer.
